..And you thought Microsoft Excel was for figures..and charts??!

Meet Tatsuo Horiuchi, a 74-year-old man from an area in Japan called Nagano Prefecture who uses Excel Spread sheets to create beautiful works of art.

How? ….

Horiuchi uses the autoshape function in Excel, layering custom coloured shapes to weave together intricate images.

Before he retired, he decided to try something new. So he purchased a PC and started experimenting with Excel. As he saw people draw graphs neatly on Excel, he thought Excel could also be used to draw art.

According to him, Graphic design software had become expensive, leading him to try Excel which comes preinstalled in PCs. With time, this became earsier to draw with than paint.

Over the years, Horiuchi's incredible artworks have circulated the web. His work won the Excel Autoshape Art Contest in 2006 and has even been featured in the Gunma Museum of Art in Japan.
